Budah of compassion,beautifully carved facial charachiristics of the goddess of mercy (guanyin). This carving is Qing dynasty, early to mid 1800’s. China, 
Dimensions: 11”x 4”x 3”
Although Guanyin is now depicted with a female representation, this figure was regarded as male in India, and slowly transformed to have a female image in China. She is known for her kindness and can also be regarded as an icon of femininity in modern Buddhism.
Guanyin’s mixture of male and female characteristics led her to became one of the most widely beloved Buddhist figures.
