Late 1700’s - early 1800’sGuandi (also known as Guan Yu or Guangong), was a Han Dynasty (202 BCE–220 CE) general who was captured and beheaded. He was posthumously deified as Guandi and has been celebrated for his loyalty, but from about the sixteenth century on has also been considered the God of Literature, the God of War, and the patron of merchants.
